In addition to serving as department chair, Dr. Kamholtz administers the field component of the B.S. Degree in Community Health including the required practicum and internship. His research interests are in the areas of the mind/body relationship and fitness and health promotion. In his spare time Dr. Kamholtz enjoys golf, working out, reading and riding his motorcycle.

Leigh Breidenbach is a UMF alumni and a member of the first UMF Ski Industries graduating class in 1984. After leaving Farmington, she continued to work in the ski industries as a full-time ski teacher and technical trainer; volunteer staff trainer for Maine Handicapped Skiing; contributing writer for a wide range of snowsports publication and as an associate rep in New England for several skiwear companies. In 1985 while working for Rik Dow and the Mt. Abram ski school, she developed A Woman's Turn program which moved to Sunday River and Sugarloaf USA, where it still continues to this day. She is still active and gives a number of clinics each winter in boot fitting for women. She returned to UMF and the Ski Industries Program in 1990 to work with the program co-founder, Coach Tom Reynolds and took over as program director after Coach Reynolds retirement in 1999. This winter will represent her 36th year as a ski teacher.

In addition to her duties as the Ski Industries Program Director, Leigh teaches classes in theory and methods of ski teaching and coaching, snowsports business and athletic management. Her areas of expertise include movement analysis, ski boot fitting and alignment, women's equipment, programming for children, adult learning, learning preferences and multiple intelligences.

In her spare time Leigh enjoys windsurfing, kayaking, hiking, gardening, cooking and providing daycare for her many canine friends.

Ron has more than 20 years of coaching experience from across New England to California. He earned a B.A. from UMF in 1984 and a M.Ed. in physical education from the State University of New York in Cortland, which included a master's thesis on the development patterns of alpine ski racers. Prior to coming to UMF in 1999, Ron coached for nine years at the Green Mountain Valley School in Sugarbush, VT. Ron, is a FIS Technical Delegate, fluent in French, runs a junior summer ski camp in France, and is heavily involved in junior ski racing development around the State of Maine and New England. In his spare time, Mr. Bonnevie enjoys outdoor recreation, street and off road motorcycling, racket sports (squash), traveling, and playing the drums.

Stephanie is a former Health Education Coordinator in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment with the Maine Department of Education. She was a Coordinated School Health Program consultant, providing technical assistance for School Health Coordinators in School/Community Partnerships participating in the Healthy Maine Partnership initiative from 2000-2006. She served on the Healthy Maine Partnership management team for two years.

She earned a B.S. in Community Health Education with a school health concentration from the University of Maine at Farmington in 1993. She completed a Masters in Health Education at Plymouth State College in 2000 and is C.H.E.S. certified. She is enrolled at the University of Maine, Orono and working towards the completion of an Individualized Doctorate in Education.

Stephanie is a former school health coordinator/teacher and taught middle/high school for seven years in Maine and Nevada. Currently, she serves on the Maine Schoolsite Health Promotion Program, the Comprehensive Health Education Planning Committee, the Coordinated School Health Program Key Advisory Group, the Coordinated School Health Program Schools of Excellence Committee, the Comprehensive Sexuality Education Planning Group, and the Maine Learning Results Review Committee for health and physical education. She has served on the Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Executive Board, the Maine School Health Education Coalition, the Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program, the Take Time for Physical Activity Initiative and the Governor's Council for Physical Fitness, Sports, Health and Wellness.

Stephanie began teaching as an Instructor in the Department of Community Health and Recreation in the Fall of 2006.

Dr. Martin teaches courses in Exercise, Nutrition, Physiology, Men's Health and a variety of community health education/promotion classes. His research interests include physical activity and youth, tobacco and substance abuse, and men's health. He has published a variety of scholarly works with topics ranging from youth tobacco use, curriculum development, to community collaboration and bioethics.

Dr. Martin most recently served as a senior fellow with the Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia as the Division's Senior Evaluation Research Scientist. Prior to the DDT appointment he served in the same capacity with the Division of Unintentional Injury at CDC. He has been "on the ground" as data collection associate for the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and National Youth Tobacco Use through Media Study (PRYSM,) and worked with the American Legacy Tobacco Use Reduction Study (ALTURS.) He served as Associate Director of the Office of School Health Education at the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Martin has taught community/public health courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in Kentucky, South Carolina, and Georgia. He has been a teacher/administrator for a grant-funded pilot alternative school called a Positive Alternative to School Suspension, a secondary school health teacher and an elementary school physical education teacher. He has worked as program fitness director for the capital city YMCA, in charge of cardiac rehabilitation and work hardening programs as well as programs for youth and elder fitness.

Dr. Martin holds a membership with the Society for Public Health Education, American Public Health Association, American School Health Association, American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and Maine Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance to name a few.

Dr. Martin is married with three wonderful children; two young adults and a preschooler. He has "come home" to Farmington after 14 years away to help continue the tradition of world class education for students of Maine who attend UMF.

Along with being an instructor for the department, Coach Leib is the head coach for both the women's soccer and softball teams.  He has a master's degree in education as well as a bachelor of science in health and physical education.  When he's not teaching or coaching he enjoys tennis, golf, cross country skiing and paddling on Wilson Lake.

Kathleen's career in public health started in Russia where she managed population-based nutritional surveys for CARE. She continued her education at Tulane University where she obtained an MPH and Ph.D. She has an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in international health, sociology and epidemiology. During her 10 years in New Orleans, she worked as an epidemiologist for the CDC Adult Spectrum of HIV Disease Study. Since coming to Maine, she has worked as an evaluator for the Healthy Community Coalition. She was hired as an assistant professor in the Department of Community Health and Recreation in the fall of 2006. Kathleen is looking forward to the opportunity to combine the practical with the theoretical.

Denise Higgins is a registered nurse and a new addition to our faculty. She is currently an instructor for Health Promotion and Wellness, Individualized Exercise and Introductory Nutrition. She also works part time at the Student Health Center on campus as a staff nurse. She has a BSN from the University of Massachusetts at Boston and has had a wide variety of healthcare experiences in her 12-year nursing career, including medical/surgical and ICU nursing, healthcare administration, health promotion program development, and most recently worksite wellness. She is currently working on a Master's Degree in Nursing at University of Maine Orono. In her spare time Denise enjoys reading and playing outside with her two young children.

Darlene is a graduate of Plus-Gray's School of Business. She has been working at the University of Maine Farmington with the Community Health Education Program since 1981. When she's not helping faculty and students, she enjoys running, golf, gardening, watching sports of all kinds and riding her motorcycle.
